Life, Liberty and The Pursuit of Health
America’s founding documents guaranteed “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness”, and the Preamble speaks of “Promoting the general welfare”. Welfare is defined as the state of being or doing well; condition of health and happiness.
We are NOT guaranteed healthcare. “Healthcare” is very narrowly defined, and often defined by those who are in power. No- America’s founders agreed that our creator endowed us with the ability inherent in the “pursuit” of health (happiness).
So- our ability to be healthy is tied directly to our access to creation and our liberty to choose how we pursue our happiness in a life that is vibrantly healthy. That is the basis for this 7 month program. Access to the knowledge of our ancestors is openly threatened and censored – unless we do the work to learn it and share it with our children it could so easily be lost. It is an uncomfortable fact that over the past couple years using the plants for health and wellness has become a revolutionary act. The time is definitely NOW, if you’ve ever been interested in becoming more self-sufficient.
Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Health
Enrollment Opening November 2022
The Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Health Class will focus on reclaiming your right to know what is growing outside your back door and how you can identify, use, and create food medicine.
Study in-person with author Dawn Comb:
Dawn Combs is an Ethnobotanist who has followed her passion for over 20 years, reconnecting people with their innate wisdom to be well using local food medicine. She is the author of Sweet Remedies, Heal Local and Conceiving Healthy Babies. Dawn and her family model how to grow your health with a strong community focus, practical solutions, Creator rather than man-made foods, and no shame or judgement. They support this growth from their Soda Farm in Marysville, Ohio where visitors experience lifestyle first-hand through retreats, a full line of delicious botanical supplements, and Farm-to-Cup probiotic soft drinks grown and hand-crafted on site.
Come learn the wisdom of your great-grandparents, using practical tools with a down-to-earth approach!
You will learn:
- Medicine making techniques
- How to care for yourself and your family without fear or anxiety. Become self-sufficient in your daily care.
- How to grow, harvest and "put up" your functional produce
- Physiology and pathophysiology of body systems
- How to put together a personal health program
- Create natural body care, cleaning supplies, and more!
In addition to the class as outline above, receive Rosemary Gladstar's Science and Art of Herbology, complete all 9 units of homework (graded by Dawn Combs) and the final exam by November 30 and receive certification through Dawn Combs and Rosemary Gladstar.
Beginning in January 2023
You will have access to online recorded lectures, how-to videos and downloadable worksheets. Each month will progressively drip lessons on physiology, pathophysiology, botany, and medicine making as we move through the body and its systems. All “lecture and class” time will be done in your own time on your own schedule. If you wish to participate in the On-Farm Meetings, it is best if you complete the lectures dropped before each meeting to take part in conversations about the topics covered.
This online course is designed to give you a full education without coming to the farm. On-Farm meetings are highly encouraged, but they are enrichment, NOT lecture. You may choose to come to none of the meetings, all of the meetings, or pick and choose as it fits your schedule.
Monthly gatherings are designed to apply each month’s topics and accumulate hands on experience. All are welcome, RSVP sign up. On farm meetings will include activities such as:
- Field Trips
- Processing Dried Materials
- Hands-on Medicine Making
- Identification Walks
- Application of advanced concepts from online lectures
- and more……
**Past students are welcome to take part in these meetings.
